Artist and educator Lisa Thorpe will present a series on surface design. Read more:
In this trunk show I share all the ways I play with surface design to create fabric I use in my quilting art. I will play short demonstration videos on Monotype Printing (also known as Gelli Printing), Marbling Fabric, Stamp Carving. Each 3 minute explanatory video gives viewers a up-close look at the process. After each technique video I’ll show examples of functional and art quilts I have made using the hand prin ted fabric and give time for audience questions. An up- loadable handout listing techniques and materials shown will also be provided to group to share with members.
About Lisa
Lisa Thorpe is a mixed media fiber artist and educator based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her visual work is idea and story driven and often connected to words and writing. As an educator she often participates in forums to explore and explain her work both in its technical process of and within the context of feminist, spiritual and environmental themes. She is drawn to the use of fabric and stitch as a reference to the tradition of fabric piecing and stitch as a feminine art that clothes and covers and comforts. She learned to sew from her mother and grandmother and feels deeply connected to this art form. For 20 years Thorpe taught art in the public schools in northern California and to families, children and adults at camps and retreats. She was a featured artist on “The Quilt Show” in 2022 and is taping an episode of “Quilting Arts TV” this summer.
